Terms of Service
Operator details — to be filled
Operator legal name: [Operator to fill]. Contact email: [Operator to fill]. Jurisdiction and governing law: [Operator to fill]. Effective date: [Operator to fill].
These placeholders must be filled in before a public demo. Until then, do not treat this page as a finished legal document. This page is not legal advice and should be reviewed by a lawyer before a public launch.
The service, as-is
SURAYA is an anonymous, text-first social client on Nostr, provided as-is, with no warranty. The app runs in your browser and connects to relays you choose; it does not run its own relay today, and it does not operate an account system, a password-reset service, or a support desk that can restore an account.
The service may change, break, or become unavailable without notice, for example if a relay goes offline. If all relays drop, the timeline simply stops updating until you reload. Nothing in these terms promises uptime, delivery of any post, or permanent storage of any post.
Your account is your key
Your account is a cryptographic keypair, not a username and password held by an operator. You are responsible for keeping your private key and your passphrase safe, and for everything published under your public key. Losing your key and passphrase means losing the account: there is no password reset, and no operator can recover it for you.
Your responsibility for what you publish
Everything you post is public by design, signed with your public key, and may be copied by any relay that receives it. A deletion request is a request, not a guarantee: other relays may still hold copies, and media files on a Blossom server are not deleted by deleting a post. Do not publish anything you are not willing to be public and effectively permanent.
You are responsible for following the law that applies to you, and for not using SURAYA to harm others, to deceive others, or to break the law. You must not publish content you do not have the right to publish, and you must not impersonate another person or account.
Prohibited content
The following are prohibited on SURAYA’s own relay when it is deployed, and are grounds for labelling, removal from that relay, and, for heavy violations, blocking of the publishing key from that relay:
- Gambling advertisements and spam.
- Phishing and fraud.
- Doxxing — publishing someone’s private personal information.
- Threats of violence.
- Child sexual content: zero tolerance — it is removed, blocked, and reported through the official channel immediately, without delay.
Today, SURAYA’s own relay is not yet deployed, so these prohibitions are enforced on SURAYA’s own infrastructure only once it exists. Until then, the relays you connect to apply their own policies as well, and SURAYA cannot remove content from a third-party relay.
Moderation: labels are not bans
Moderation in SURAYA is on accounts and content, never on IP or identity. A guard checks posts before publication on SURAYA’s own relay, and a moderator labels content after publication. A label is not a ban: it is a finding that other clients and readers may use, and a ban happens only by an explicit operator decision.
You can report a post in the app, which publishes a report and lets you mute its author locally. You can appeal a label through a public thread, which is reviewed by a human; if a label was wrong, it is removed. For heavy violations, a publishing key may be added to SURAYA’s own relay block list and its content deleted from that relay — other relays may still hold copies.
Third-party relays and services
SURAYA connects by default to third-party relays and to Blossom media servers you choose. Those services are not operated by SURAYA, their own terms and privacy policies apply to them, and SURAYA is not responsible for what they do with data you send them, including connection metadata such as your IP address. Check a relay’s or media server’s policy before using it, and remove any relay or server you do not trust in the Relays tab.
Children
SURAYA does not ask for your age and does not enforce an age gate today. That is a limitation, not a protection, and it must be decided by the operator before a public launch.
Liability
To the extent permitted by the governing law to be filled in above, SURAYA and its operator are not liable for content published by users, for actions of third-party relays or media servers, for loss of a private key or passphrase, or for any loss arising from use of the service as-is. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will be published on this page, and the effective date above must be updated at the same time. Continued use of SURAYA after a change means you accept the new terms.
